Oral Surgeons

Dr. Kienle completed his six years of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training at the University of Pennsylvania. This six-year program included an accelerated MD (Medical School and degree) at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, a two-year certificate of General Surgery training (including rotations on plastic surgery and pediatric plastic surgery) at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and an advanced specialty certificate in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine.

Dr. Steinkeler completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. As part of his residency, he attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine where he received his MD degree. Dr. Steinkeler received a two-year general surgery certificate at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, completing rotations at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He also completed extensive rotations in adult and pediatric anesthesia.

Dr. Gunawardena completed six years of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New York. Prior to that, he completed his General Surgery Internship at the Stony Brook University Hospital where he received additional training in trauma surgery, general surgery, plastic surgery, and the management of critically ill patients. Dr. Gunawardena received his medical degree (M.D.) from Stony Brook School of Medicine and his dental degree (D.M.D.) from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine.

Dr. Kienle, Dr. Steinkeler and Dr. Gunawardena are Board Certified by the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology. In addition, Drs. Kienle, Steinkeler and Gunawardena are Board Certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

As Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Drs. Kienle, Steinkeler and Gunawardena manage a wide variety of problems relating to the jaws and facial region. Drs. Kienle, Steinkeler and Gunawardena practice the full scope of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery with expertise in wisdom tooth removal, dental implant surgery, extractions, general anesthesia, sedation, corrective/reconstructive jaw surgery, facial pain, facial injuries, head and neck pathology and TMJ disorders.


Surgical Staff

The surgical staff at our facilities are registered nurses and licensed practical nurses and experienced oral and maxillofacial surgical assistants, who assist in the administration of intravenous anesthesia and surgery. The entire staff is BCLS (CPR) (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certified. The surgeons and registered nurses are ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certified.

We are proud to have the only Oral and Maxillofacial Surgical Centers in the Delaware Valley that have this distinction. The Joint Commission is the same organization that accredits hospitals, medical centers, and other health care facilities.
