Meet Dr. Schwartz

Photo of Retired Oral Surgeon Dr. Schwartz

Dr. Schwartz founded this practice in 1967. This practice, when founded, was one of the first true Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery practices in Bucks County. In fact, Dr. Schwartz was the first surgeon to use the current name of our specialty, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, when naming his practice. This practice has remained in the forefront of all Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery practices continuing Dr. Schwartz’s vision, dedication, and legacy. The practice now has three fully accredited surgical facilities and is the only private Oral and Maxillofacial Surgical facilities in the greater Philadelphia area that are fully accredited by the Joint Commission.

Lewis J. Schwartz, DMD is originally from Brooklyn, NY. He attended Wake Forest University where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree. He then attended Temple University School of Dentistry and earned his DMD degree in 1964.

Following his graduation from Temple University School of Dentistry Dr. Schwartz attended the Graduate School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Schwartz then was accepted into the Sinai Hospital residency program of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Detroit Michigan. This program was one of the top programs in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in the country. In fact, the modern United States training programs in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery are all modeled after the Michigan programs. Dr. Schwartz was trained under the tutelage of Drs. Herb Bloom and Irwin Small, pioneers in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Schwartz follows in the lineage of Dr. Chalmers Lyons, one of the founders of modern oral and maxillofacial surgery training.

During his early years in practice, he was an assistant professor in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department at Temple University School of Dentistry. Dr. Schwartz’s main interests included dentoalveolar surgery, the removal of impacted wisdom teeth, and dental implant surgery. He is a retired diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and is a Life Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Dr. Schwartz retired from active practice in 2008.
